CARTE REGIONALI "PIACENTINE", TRIESTE, SINCE 1868

Le carte arrivano in Italia nel Medioevo: dalla Sicilia, si diffondono in tutto il paese e nell'Europa del Nord: fin da subito, l'iconografia rispecchia la società: il mazzo si popola di re, regine e cavalieri, spesso usati con intento ironico. Così, spesso, la regina vale più del re per sottolineare la debolezza dei reali dell'epoca. Con la rivoluzione francese, il popolo prende il sopravvento e le carte dai valori più bassi (asso e tre), diventano le più potenti del mazzo, “tagliando la testa” ai nobili.
Da allora, il numero dei giochi cresce a dismisura e così l'esigenza di nuovi mazzi.

Questo mazzo è realizzato da Modiano, azienda storica nata nel 1868 a Trieste, la prima città italiana che ebbe l'autorizzazione per stampare carte da gioco.

PIEDMONT TAROT DECK - FOR TAROT READING, MODIANO, TRIESTE, SINCE 1868

Cards arrive in Italy in medieval times. From Sicily they quickly spread to the rest of the country and to north Europe.
From the very beginning the iconography matches the society of the times: the deck is stacked with kings and queens and knaves, often used in a mocking way. For example in many games the queen becomes more powerful than the king, implying his weakness. During the French revolution the people take over and the lower cards (aces and threes) become the strongest of the deck, "cutting the head" off the royals of the times.
Since then the number of games grows exponentially, hence the need for new decks.

This Traditional Card Deck is made by Modiano, a historical company founded in 1868 and based in Trieste, Italy, the first city in Italy authorized to print playing cards.
