RUST PRINTED TOWEL, ANTICA STAMPERIA MARCHI, DAL 1633

This amazing towel is made with the traditional technique of rust printing which was introduced in a small area of Italy (Romagna, in the North) during the 17th century. In the past, the technique was used to decorate the oxen's covers to bring them to county fairs and to adorn brides' hope chests with fertility symbols, like pomegranates or grapes.
Today Antica Stamperia Marchi is the oldest existing rust-printing house: the family still uses its old secret recipe (based on vinegar, flour and rusty iron) to make the most brilliant colour. All the artifacts are hand-decorated with over 2.000 wooden stamps and ironed with a mangle (wooden wheel) from 17th century (one of the last functioning samples in the world!)
Every piece is a work of art and a witness of the ancient wisdom of rural material culture.

Please note that in order to obtain the most brilliant print, it is necessary to use the highest quality cotton. This is why Antica Stamperia Marchi uses only certified cotton and buys it from local manufactures in the North of Italy.

Use suggestions:
The rust printing is guaranteed to be washed in the washing machine even at high temperatures (up to 60 degrees) and is resistant to bleach.
To ensure that the prints take an even more brilliant color, strong and characteristic, it is suggested to make a little treatment after the first use: wash it by hand in medium to warm water, lathering without soak, rinse well and put in a small amount of bleach, then rinse again and let it dry.

CANOVACCIO CON STAMPA A RUGGINE, ANTICA STAMPERIA MARCHI, DAL 1633

Questo bellissimo canovaccio è realizzato con la tecnica tradizionale della stampa a ruggine dall'Antica Stamperia Marchi di Sant'Arcangelo di Romagna, attiva dal 1633.
Un tempo la tecnica era usata per decorare le coperte dei buoi per portarli alle fiere di paese e per ornare i corredi delle spose con simboli di fertilità e buon auspicio.
La famiglia si tramanda di generazione in generazione una ricetta segreta per la preparazione del colore a base di aceto, farina e ferro arrugginito. Ancora oggi tutti i manufatti sono decorati a mano con oltre 2000 timbri in legno di pero e stirati con un mangano del 1600 (uno dei pochi ancora funzionanti del mondo!)
Ogni pezzo è un'opera d'arte vivente e un testimone dell'antica sapienza della civiltà contadina. Un capolavoro senza tempo da mostrare con gioia in cucina.

Nota: al fine di ottenere il massimo della brillantezza, è necessario che il tessuto sia di ottima qualità. Per questo l'Antica Stamperia Marchi acquista il cotone unicamente da aziende locali, attive nel Nord Italia.

Consigli per l'uso:
La stampa a ruggine è garantita per essere lavata in lavatrice anche ad alte temperature (fino a 60 gradi) e resiste a trattamenti sbiancanti come la candeggina.
Per far sì che le stampe assumano un colore ancora più brillante, solido e caratteristico, si consiglia di fare un piccolo trattamento in occasione del primo lavaggio: lavare a mano in acqua tiepida, insaponare senza lasciare in ammollo, sciacquare bene e mettere in varechina, dopodichè risciacquare nuovamente e stendere.
